den er auf dem Krankenbett verfasste, mit einigen Klarstellungen auf den kontroversen, ihn betreffenden Aufsatz
von Rajesh Kumar SINGH, der im Band 24 (2019) von BIS erschienen war. Auch SPINKs Schülerin Shubha
KHANDEKAR (Mumbai) befasst sich in ihrem Aufsatz "The Ajanta Whodunit: Truth Shines through the Debris"
mit SINGHs kontroversen Thesen. Joseph MANUEL (Delhi/Bhopal) präsentiert eine Rezension zu Rajesh Kumar
SINGHs Buch "Periodisation of Rock-cut Monuments of India, Baroda, 2020". Ibrahim SHAH (Peshawar) stellt "Three Kashmiri Surya Images in the Lahore Museum, Pakistan" vor und diskutiert deren künstlerische und
ikonographische Besonderheiten. Mokammal H. BHUIYAN (Dhaka) behandelt in seinem Aufsatz "A Rare Sixarmed
Siva Image from Vikrampur" eine erst kürzlich in Bangladesh gefundene Steinskulptur des Hindu-Gottes
Siva. Die letzten drei Beiträge behandeln Themen aus dem Jaina-Kontext: Gerd J.R. MEVISSEN (Berlin) präsentiert
in "Revised Corpus of Jaina Stone Sculptures Bearing Graha Figures, Part I: Eastern India (Bihar, Jharkhand, West
Bengal, Bangladesh)" den ersten Teil des updates seines in BIS 13/14 (2000) erschienenen "Corpus of Jaina Stone Sculptures Bearing graha.s as Subsidiary Figures"; Nalini BALBIR (Paris) rezensiert ausführlich das zweibändige
Werk von Peter FLÜGEL "Askese und Devotion. Das rituelle System der Terapanth Svetambara Jaina, Dettelbach,
2018"; und Peter FLÜGEL befasst sich in seinem Beitrag "Jaina Non-Tirthas in Madhyadesa II.1: Sites of Non-Memory" mit Fragen zur Bewahrung und Präsentation von Kulturgut und präsentiert den ersten Teil der Ergebnisse
seiner ausgedehnten Feldforschungen zu Jaina-Relikten in Zentralindien.
The 10 contributions in Volume 25 (2021) treat different aspekts of South Asian culture. Starting with the complete
list of publications (compiled by Gerd J.R. MEVISSEN) by Gouriswar BHATTACHARYA, the eminent art historian
and epigraphist, who had lived in Berlin for a long time and died in 2019, the next article by the Indologist Andreas
BOCK-RAMING (Mainz), who died in 2021, presents observations regarding the Dadhici episode and their context
in the 4th adhyaya of the Halasyamahatmya. The article "The View from the Sikhara" by the eminent art historian
Walter SPINK (Ann Arbor), which he wrote in hospital shortly before his death in 2019, is a rejoinder to the
controversial article by Rajesh Kumar SINGH, published in volume 24 (2019) of BIS. Also SPINKs friend and
colleague Shubha KHANDEKAR (Mumbai) deals in her article "The Ajanta Whodunit: Truth Shines through the
Debris" with SINGH's controversial statements. Joseph MANUEL (Delhi/Bhopal) reviews Rajesh Kumar SINGH's
recent book "Periodisation of Rock-cut Monuments of India, Baroda, 2020". Ibrahim SHAH (Peshawar) studies "Three Kashmiri Surya Images in the Lahore Museum, Pakistan" and discusses their artistic and iconographic
peculiarities. Mokammal H. BHUIYAN (Dhaka) presents in his article "A Rare Six-armed Siva Image from
Vikrampur" a previously unpublished stone sculpture of the Hindu god Siva that was only recently found in
Bangladesh. The concluding three contributions deal with Jaina topics: Gerd J.R. MEVISSEN's (Berlin) article "Revised Corpus of Jaina Stone Sculptures Bearing Graha Figures, Part I: Eastern India (Bihar, Jharkhand, West
Bengal, Bangladesh)" is the first part of an update of his "Corpus of Jaina Stone Sculptures Bearing graha.s as
Subsidiary Figures", published in BIS 13/14 (2000); Nalini BALBIR's (Paris) paper is a lenghty review of the twovolume
work by Peter FLÜGEL "Askese und Devotion. Das rituelle System der Terapanth Svetambara Jaina,
Dettelbach, 2018"; and Peter FLÜGEL deals in his article "Jaina Non-Tirthas in Madhyadesa II.1: Sites of Non-
Memory" with questions of preservation and presentation of cultural relics and presents the first part of the results of his extensive field work documenting Jaina culture in Central India.
