Gerade die konfliktbeladenen Verhältnisse unter den Völkern im südöstlichen Europa haben dazu animiert, die Bedeutung der Kulturen im Einzelnen hervorzuheben. So wird in den Beiträgen
die Historie ebenso erörtert wie die kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen und die Perspektive für die Zukunft im Vereinten Europa. Musik ist nicht nur die Aneinanderreihung von Tönen, sondern ebenso ein
gesellschaftspolitisches Instrument, wie es im „Grand Prix de la Chanson d’ Eurovision“, in den Gesängen des Fußballevents und als Darstellung auf Geldscheinen seinen Ausdruck findet. Musik ist aber auch
Sprache der Seele und vermittelt als solche Freude wie auch Hoffnung und spendet Trost.
Bevor die ersten Länder des ehemaligen „Ostblocks“ sich dem Vereinten Europa anschließen, haben sich international
renommierte Ethnomusikologen zusammengefunden, um über die Bedeutung der Musik im Vereinten Europa zu diskutieren.
The
conflicts between the peoples of southeastern Europe forced a new evaluation of the importance of individual cultures in their relations with one another. The articles in this anthology touch upon topics such as
history, armed conflict and the future prospects of a united Europe. For music is not only a sequence of notes, but also a socio-political instrument, as is evident in the “Grand Prix de la Chanson
d’Eurovision”, in the songs of soccer fans, as well as the illustrations which adorn paper money. Music, however, is also the language of the soul, and as such can lend expression to feelingsof joy, hope
or consolation.
Even before the first countries of the former “Eastern Bloc” join the European Union, an internationally-renowned group of ethnomusicologists have joined together in a discussion on
the meaning of music in a united Europe.
